Record Snowpack Leads to Best Rafting in a Decade

As the snow continues to fall in the Rocky Mountains, another foot this evening, we river guides are beginning to look ahead to the spectacular melt-off which will fill our rivers this spring. To simplify, more snow in winter = more water in the river in spring = bigger, more exciting whitewater rapids. In short, we are getting very excited.

So just how much snow is up there? Lets put it into perspective. Today, our local high country is crested with 147% of its average annual snow-pack. That is over two times last winter’s total annual snowfall. Already, there is more snow on the peaks than our last record setting winter of 2016/17.

Here in the North Fork Valley, this means our two whitewater rivers, the North Fork of the Gunnison and Anthracite Creek will provide fun filled thrill rides this May and June. This will be our first year offering whitewater rafting tours on these rivers. In fact, it will be the first time they have been rafted commercially.
